Farmers searching for hike in sugarcane costs blocked rail tracks and a nationwide freeway in Jalandhar immediately, impacting motion of trains and vehicular visitors.

According to railway officers of Ferozepur division, as many as 50 trains have been cancelled, whereas 54 have both been diverted or short-terminated.

Scores of farmers had on Friday launched an agitation for an indefinite interval to press the Punjab authorities to just accept their calls for associated to pending dues of sugarcane and hike in cane costs.

They refused immediately to raise the blockade until their calls for have been met.

Emergency automobiles have, nonetheless, been allowed to ply, they added.

Protesters have blocked the Jalandhar-Phagwara stretch of the nationwide freeway close to Dhanowali village of Jalandhar district.

The blockade affected visitors to and from Jalandhar, Amritsar and Pathankot, although the administration diverted visitors by way of some different routes.

Farmers sitting on the Jalandhar-Chaheru part have blocked the Ludhiana-Amritsar and the Ludhiana-Jammu rail tracks in Jalandhar, affecting a number of trains, together with the Amritsar-New Delhi (02030) and the Amritsar-New Delhi Shane-e-Punjab (04068).
