Maharashtra Government Cuts Excise Duty On Imported Scotch By 50 Per Cent

The Maharashtra authorities has slashed excise obligation on imported scotch whiskey by 50 per cent to convey its value on par with that in different states, a senior official stated right here right now.

“The excise duty on imported scotch whiskey has been brought down from 300 per cent to 150 per cent of the manufacturing cost,” the official advised PTI.

The notification on this regard was issued yesterday, she stated.

The Maharashtra authorities earns income of about Rs 100 crore from the sale of imported scotch yearly.

The income is anticipated to extend to Rs 250 crore because the sale is anticipated to go up from one lakh bottles to 2.5 lakh bottles, the official stated.

The discount in obligation would additionally curb smuggling of scotch from different states and sale of spurious liquor, she added.
